General Summary

The in-person Faculty for the RN-to-BSN Program must adhere to the requirements, standards and guidelines set forth by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas; National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission; and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field by reading current literature, participating in continuing education and professional development, and attending conferences to stay up to date on changes in the nursing profession. As an integral part of this innovative program, you will be responsible to teach a variety of in-person and online courses in the program, oversees students, and ensures they are able to meet the BSN Program Learning Outcomes through multiple learning modalities, including all didactic and clinical experiences. The Faculty for RN-to-BSN Program is required to promote the mission of Odessa College Nursing and participate fully in the governance of the department, including curriculum development and evaluation, and implementation of the systematic evaluation plan for the RN-to-BSN Program.

The RN-to-BSN Program will integrate principles from the Fundamental patterns of Knowing in Nursing as the theoretical foundation for professional nursing practice to promote the maturation of the licensed registered nurse with the Associate Degree to practice according to established educational standards of the Texas Board of Nursing, Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and the practice standards of the American Nurses Association.

Specific Position Duties

  • Develop and deliver online learning modules that are engaging, informative and aligned with course objectives.
  • Facilitate interactive online discussions and forums to foster student engagement and collaboration.
  • Adapt teaching strategies for effective delivery in both online and face-to-face clinical settings.
  • Practices reflective teaching and nursing.
  • Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Provides students with written expectations that are congruent with the Odessa College and the RN to BSN vision and policies.
  • Evaluates and grades student class, simulation and clinical work, assignments and papers in a timely manner, also in a manner that is constructive to the students learning.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise students in all simulations and clinical experiences.
  • Delivers material in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Utilize technology platforms for remote clinical supervision, such as video conferencing for observation and feedback.
  • Be available to students virtually and in-person to provide academic and personal support. Addresses student concerns, i.e., comments, questions, and input via timely electronic communication, posted office hours, and other suitable means.
  • Submits required reports and schedules in a timely manner to the department chair.
  • Maintains effective relationships and collaborates with professional counterparts throughout the college and the community.
  • Maintains individual student advisement on degree plans and degree applications in order to comply with completion requirements.
  • Plans, evaluates and revises the curriculum, course content, course materials and methods of instruction in conjunction with other faculty and director.
  • Assists with recruiting, marketing, and outreach for department programs.
  • Mentors and advises RN to BSN students.
  • Actively participates in college functions and events, and engages in community service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in nursing from a nationally accredited program or university.
  • Unencumbered RN license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
  • Passion for teaching RN to BSN students.
  • Three years experience in nursing education or higher administration in nursing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Breadth of expertise in curriculum development.
  • Experience teaching in online blended learning environments.
  • Strong proficiency in online learning technologies and platforms.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills in both virtual and physical settings
  • Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet the diverse needs of hybrid program learners.
