Campus Statement

Phoenix College (PC) welcomed its first students as one of the first institutions of higher education in Maricopa County on September 13, 1920. PC's founders envisioned the College as a place of inclusion as a non-segregated institution. Job Summary

*THIS POSITION WILL BEGIN AUGUST 2024*

Phoenix College (PC) is looking for a full-time Administration of Justice Faculty to teach Administration of Justice Studies (AJS), Public Safety Administration (PSA), Law and/or Forensics (FOR) Classes. This role involves teaching, offering career and academic guidance, supervising, and assessing students from various backgrounds, using traditional, hybrid, and online methods, following Maricopa (MCCCD) and Phoenix College (PC) policies.

The Administration of Justice Faculty will serve as a liaison to various criminal justice agencies, public safety, and law officials, as directed by the Department Chair and Program Directors. This position will research, develop, and implement AJS, FOR, and PSA courses, as well as remain current in developments within the fields in order to research, develop and implement updated instructional programs.

Essential Functions

Supervise and instruct students from diverse backgrounds in classroom, lab, and/or online settings, using a variety of presentation techniques, in AJS, Public Safety, and Forensic Science.

Develops course syllabi and materials that include learning-centered and equity-minded strategies to engage students and promote student success: creates instructional materials and develops curriculum that demonstrates innovation in teaching by focusing on student learning, retention and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and alternative delivery of courses; instructs in both traditional and non-traditional settings such as Learning Communities, short term courses, hybrid and on-line courses; college and departmental assessment tools ; participates in continuous assessment, evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning.

Assists and responds to problems/requests from students during in-person office hours, virtual office hours and electronic communication; serves on collaborative work teams with faculty, staff, administration and community stakeholders, keeps Department hours and accountability

Remains current with new trends and developments in the fields through attendance of conferences, seminars, and workshops and active within the community; engages in the academic life of the college by participating in district-wide, campus and departmental activities including Department meetings, committees and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of five years of occupational experience in the following fields, which include but are not limited to: Administration of Justice Studies, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Legal Studies, Justice Studies, Public Safety Administration, Law and Policy, Police Science, Forensic Science

OR

Three years of occupational experience in the following fields as well as a Bachelor's Degree in any field, which include but are not limited to: Administration of Justice Studies, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Legal Studies, Justice Studies, Public Safety Administration, Law and Policy, Police Science, Forensic Science

OR

Masters degree or higher in the following fields, which include but are not limited to: Administration of Justice Studies, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Legal Studies, Justice Studies, Public Safety Administration, Law and Policy, Police Science

OR

Masters degree or higher in any field and 18 graduate-level credits or 24 upper division undergraduate credits in the following fields or courses: Criminal, Criminology, Police, Corrections, Legal, Judicial, Public Safety, Law; including these areas: AJS, CJ, CRJ, LET, JUD, JAS, LEO, PSA, LAW

Desired Qualifications

1. Masters Degree or higher in Administration of Justice, Public Safety Administration, Law, Forensics, or any related field

2. Five (5) or more years of recent occupational experience in the fields of Administration of Justice, Public Safety Administration, Law, Forensics, or related fields

3. Three (3) or more years of current teaching experience in AJS, PS,& FOR using online, hybrid, or in-person delivery methods

4. Experience with software applications (e.g., word processing and spreadsheets) and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)

5. Experience developing and/or teaching online/virtual online/hybrid courses. Provide at least three examples of courses with details of what was developed and taught

6. Experience working with minoritized populations, such as first-generation, Latinx, American Indian, Black/African American, LGBTQ, individuals with varying immigration status, individuals with disabilities, and/or those who have experienced foster care. Please specify the particular groups with which you have experience

7. Experience working with peers in a collaborative environment to support student engagement in the fields of Administration of Justice, Law, Public Safety, and or Forensics. Provide at least two examples

Special Working Conditions

 Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations.
  • May be exposed to potentially contagious and infectious diseases and other blood-borne pathogens.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be available on a rotating basis to work days, nights, and weekends, subject to change based on the needs of the college, district, and program. Work assignment(s) may extend past normal academic semesters and hours.
  • May be required to teach in-person, online, virtual online, or in a hybrid format.
  • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen.
  • May be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional local travel required.
  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is required; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving.
  • This position in the Administration of Justice, Public Safety Administration, and Forensic Science Programs is scheduled to begin August 2024.
