Montgomery College has an immediate opening for a Recruitment and College Access Specialist. Under the supervision and direction of the department manager, this position is responsible for using data analysis to manage a territory of prospective student profiles to align with the Colleges enrollment goals. The incumbent is responsible for developing and executing activities to attract, engage and convert prospective students.

Strategies may involve contact with multiple constituencies, such as direct interaction with the general public, faculty, staff, students, student representatives, and representatives of outside entities such as public and private schools, professional, and other community organizations for the purpose of supporting the recruitment and enrollment of students.

The position is a grade 23, non-exempt, bargaining position located in Rockville, MD. Hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8:30 am -5:00pm, with some evening and weekend hours as needed. One (1) day of telework may be granted based on the needs of the unit

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement on-campus and community activities to enhance enrollment goals; manage logistics; design activities to generate attendance; coordinate faculty and student participation; arrange for the registration process. Develop tools to survey the effectiveness of activities.
  • Coordinate and/or manage multiple databases, electronic and other forms of communication; generate reports to research, identify, and analyze measures that enhance recruitment and enrollment goals/objectives.
  • Assess enrollment needs of prospective students to determine the appropriate goals, impediments, and barriers for credit/non-credit coursework.
  • Counsel students and parents on the admissions and enrollment process, programs, and support services.
  • Track enrollment of potential students and develop strategies to facilitate enrollment based upon enrollment analysis.
  • Analyze enrollment trends to provide analytics, data conversion, new outreach ideas, and develop intervention strategies to facilitate enrollment.
  • Develop targeted communications for various audiences and public settings in order to showcase the Colleges programs and services.
  • Develop and implement online outreach strategies that target internal and external communities to support enrollment goals.
  • Recommend and assist internal faculty and staff in the development of specific opportunities to promote academic areas.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university in a related field, and/or any combination of education, training and experience providing understanding of the field and the ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Three years of progressively responsible, enrollment, admissions and/or recruiting experience in an institute of higher learning or similar environment.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certifications and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Knowledge of up-to-date on higher education enrollment trends to determine best strategies and activities to address enrollment needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of recruitment methods, procedures and techniques, and effective methods of publicity and communication as applied to recruitment programs for institutes of higher learning.
  • Knowledge of critical organizational practices and goals; broad theoretical and technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the Colleges policies, mission, vision, and the role of the College within the community, the State of Maryland, and higher education.
  • Knowledge of data tracking tools (MS excel, access, CRM), email, project/time management, and Internet applications.
  • Excellent leadership, customer service, organizational and presentation skills as well as the ability to lead, instruct, train, guide and motivate others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to develop, plan and organize recruitment projects to successfully accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to develop and present technical documentation and training materials.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with multiple teams (including academic and IT teams).
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships; influence, build credibility and trust.
  • Ability to think critically.
  • Ability to attend meetings and work events at locations outside of the office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Submission of cover letter is preferred
  • Proficiency (orally and in writing) in a 2nd language in addition to English

Hiring Range: $25.18 - $32.73 per hour. Salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.
