Position Summary: Criminal Justice program faculty members serve multiple roles as teachers, mentors, colleagues, and scholars. Full-time faculty are expected not only to excel in classroom instruction but also to fulfill various responsibilities as active members of the college community.

In addition, a full-time faculty position in the Criminal Justice program requires teaching criminal justice courses.

The full-time position person shall be able to teach face-to-face (f2f) courses Monday through Friday at the main Johnson County Community College campus; 12345 College Blvd., Overland Park, KS 66210. This would include morning courses Monday through Friday.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in criminal justice or closely related field. Per the State of Kansas and Higher Learning Commission minimum requirements for Criminal Justice courses.
  • Ten (10) years of experience employed in the criminal justice field. For example, law enforcement, prisons, probation, parole, public defender's office, or criminal prosecutor.
  • Knowledge of various course delivery methods at JCCC in addition to the face-to-face delivery method. For example, online or hybrid delivery methods.
  • Know or learn Canvas the online learning management system that JCCC utilizes.
  • Full-time faculty requires content expertise. Faculty must demonstrate deep subject knowledge, including key concepts, current and relevant research, methodologies, tools and techniques, and meaningful applications.
  • Full-time faculty cultivates a supportive learning environment. Select and develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning; create appropriate assignments to encourage student learning, the development of communication skills, and higher-order thinking; and use available instructional technology, as appropriate.
  • Full-time faculty meet institutional expectations. For example, meet classes as scheduled; notify the appropriate Chair, Assistant Dean, or Dean in advance if they are to be absent, and, if possible, arrange for a substitute instructor or assignments for his or her class.
  • Full-time faculty meet Criminal Justice program expectations. For example, participated in the Criminal Justice Club or Public Safety Day.
  • Full-time faculty be members of the college community. For example, fulfill all requirements as stated in college policies and procedures including mandatory training.
  • Full-time faculty are members of the college community and should contribute to the creation of a collegial culture. For example, treat all members of the college community with dignity and respect demonstrate professional, courteous behavior, and engage in constructive conflict resolution, when needed.
  • Full-time faculty members are expected to serve the College by contributing to the growth and enhancement of the College's mission and programs. For example, fulfill all requirements as stated in the Master Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or J.D.
  • Five (5) years experience teaching at a Community College or 4-year College or University.
