Job Description

The Meruelo Family Center for Career Development (CCD) prepares students for lifelong career readiness by guiding them to discern, pursue, and achieve career goals that align with their values, interests, and skills. The CCD aspires to unite the Notre Dame community to inspire and prepare every student to pursue a life of impact and purpose.

The Assistant Director plays a mission-critical role in the CCD. The Assistant Director is accountable for ensuring every graduate student enrolled in Graduate School-affiliated professional masters programs is actively engaged in career development activities. This includes tracking engagement, strategically partnering with faculty and administrators, creating best-in-class resources, meeting with students, and implementing tailored programs.

The Assistant Director provides career advisement, guidance, and consulting to graduate students enrolled in Graduate School-affiliated professional masters programs pursuing any career path, including additional advanced degrees, employment, entrepreneurship, and other pursuits. This includes working with students to facilitate job/internship searches, prepare resumes and cover letters, and conduct mock interviews.

The Assistant Director serves as a member of the Center for Career Development team through teamwork and collaboration across all department functional areas of the CCD.

Responsibilities include:

CAREER ADVISEMENT AND CONSULTATION
Conduct individual and group student appointments related to all career development topic needs, primarily career discernment. Advise students on various career paths, skills development, internship/full-time job search strategies, interview techniques, etc.

RESOURCE CREATION AND REFINEMENT
Research, develop, and implement best-in-class resources to ensure every graduate student enrolled in a Graduate School-affiliated professional masters program is equipped to manage their career development. This includes collaboration with CCD staff, employers, and alumni.

STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS AND ENGAGEMENT
Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure every graduate student is connected to the most appropriate career development resources, whether offered through the Center for Career Development, the respective professional masters program, or other campus partners.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT
Develop innovative programs to ensure graduate students are provided the best available resources to advance their career development. This includes workshops, guest speakers, networking events, career fair preparation, and more, specifically tailored to students in the College.

SUPPORT OF CENTRALIZED EFFORTS
Participate in departmental meetings and large departmental events and initiatives. Participate in departmental programming (career fairs, open houses, etc.). Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to ensure the success of the Center for Career Development, the University, students, and other stakeholders.

Professional masters degree programs this position serves include:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required (masters degree preferred, if no industry experience)
  • 3-4 years full-time, transferable work experience
  • Knowledge of the functions of higher education career services
  • Knowledge of career development principles
  • Knowledge of career paths for graduate students enrolled in particular programs
  • Competence in providing advice and guidance to students
  • Experience with career advising of college students
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills – both written and verbal
  • Ability to present information in compelling ways, both in-person and virtually
  • Ability to learn technology quickly
  • Demonstrated proficiency in building relationships
  • Ability to think organizationally, conceptually, and strategically
  • Ability to manage projects and relationships simultaneously, set priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Serve as a team player with a positive attitude across multiple departments with distinct responsibilities

Monday, Friday 8AM – 5PM plus evening events. This position is based on Notre Dames main campus. Our commitment to Notre Dame students is to provide in-person services and events. As such, this is not a remote position and hybrid work is not available.
