Job Description

The Criminal Justice Department invites applications for a full-time, temporary one year faculty position. The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to teach in the areas of criminal law and introduction to courts. The successful individual can also teach a variety of courses within the undergraduate program such as introduction to criminal justice, administration of justice, and global crime and justice, as well as the graduate program in criminal justice.

Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract. Duties include teaching, advising, and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in criminal justice or closely related field, or ABD with doctorate conferred by August 2024
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to teach in areas of courts and criminal law
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college/university level

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in and enthusiasm for teaching in multiracial, multiethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles

  2. Experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses

  3. Experience in distance learning and instructional technologies

  4. Experience serving as role a model and mentor for a diverse student body

  5. Evidence of scholarly research in Criminological and/or Criminal Justice issues.

  6. As an emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), Salem State University seeks to enrich the faculty/librarian ranks by actively encouraging candidates whose lived and scholarly experiences directly address issues regarding the health, welfare, and representation of Latinx populations in the United States. Working Conditions:

This is an on-site, in-person position in Salem, MA.
