Adjunct Assistant Professor, Biotechnology

Job Description

Salary is determined per the SF Salary Schedule.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Biotechnology will develop, prepare, and teach program courses. Course offerings may be taught during the day or evening, depending on program needs.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Plan, organize, and deliver laboratory methods and procedures in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with department chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain accurate records such as attendance, grading and achievement of student learning outcomes.
  • Honor student confidentiality and privacy as per appropriate laws, regulations, and college rules.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Reports to: Academic Chair, Emerging Technologies

Qualifications

Required: Bachelors degree in any combination of qualifying fields or an associates degree and demonstrated competencies through certification or work experience.
Preferred: Masters or higher degree in one of the qualifying fields or at least a masters degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in any combination of the qualifying fields.

Qualifying Fields: Any recognized academic major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs.
  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
  • Communication – able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic, and tactful manner using preferred method and level as applicable to the job.
  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Ability to work successfully in a multi-cultural environment.
