Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, has an immediate need for a Full-time Job Opportunity & Development Specialist, Germantown Campus, Workforce Development and Continuing Education. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. This is a Non-Bargaining, Non-exempt, Grade 27 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. This position is currently eligible for telework 1 day per week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.

This position is based on availability of funding and is currently funded through the Tech Metro Area Pathways (TechMap) Grant, United States Department of Labor. This is a temporary position with benefits funded through September 30, 2026. Employment continuation beyond this period is contingent upon need and funding. 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop cooperative education and internship job placements for students.
  • Match student résumés to jobs related to respective field of study, provide resumes to employers, and coordinate the development of student goals by the student and employer.
  • Monitor student placement and progress towards work goals.
  • Maintain records on employer referral system and placement and progress towards work goals.
  • Maintain records on employer referral system and student and employer information.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to encourage employers to participate in the program and inform faculty and employers about the program.  
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit students to the program and increase participation.
  • Plan and conduct workshops for students on career choices, employability skills, résumé writing, and interviewing.
  • Develop and conduct classroom presentations to student and alumni groups on topics such as résumé writing, job interviewing, career management, skill development and cover letter preparation.  
  • Collect, compile, and generate reports and statistics on program activities.
  • Meet with students to develop or edit résumés, practice interviewing, assess job readiness and determine employment goals.
  • Advise and demonstrate the use of technology – including the College job search database – to assist students and alumni in finding full and part-time jobs and internships.
  • Represent the college at external events such as job fairs, career development workshops, etc.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, employers, and other external clients and make referrals to other departments as appropriate.
  • Maintain contact with students and alumni to follow-up on placement status.
  • Generate and maintain records of students served and student progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in counseling, career development, business administration, education, or a related field providing an understanding of the field.  The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience (including speaking in public, making presentations and conducting workshops) in the placement of diverse populations with little or no employment experience into appropriate jobs, in working with students, faculty, employers and community organizations in identifying available job opportunities, and/or in facilitating workshops on all aspects of the job search process.
  • Working knowledge of career development practices and the technology used to develop job opportunities; of job search strategies, processes and effective methodologies; of résumé writing and interviewing techniques.
  • Some knowledge of the labor market and career trends in the greater Washington Metropolitan area; of marketing techniques; of the systems used to track information on placing college students into cooperative education and internships within their respective majors.
  • Ability to advise and instruct on a variety of career management topics; to design and develop workshops; to work independently to accomplish program objectives; to establish and maintain affirmative professional working relationships with a culturally diverse student and employer population.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in counseling, career development, business administration, or education.
  • Fluency in another language strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of population to be served, including immigrant community needs and issues, those in need of language and literacy instruction, and those with learning disabilities. 
  • Experience with the content area (Cloud Technologies, Computer Networks, Cybersecurity, Data Analysis) 
  • Global Career Development Facilitator or similar career development certification 

Hiring Range: $30.47 to $39.60/hourlyInitial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.  Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
