Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring, has an immediate need for a full-time Nursing Lab and Clinical Associate in the Nursing Program Department. The work schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. but varies from 8 to 10-hour days (40 hours a week). This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 29 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Under supervision and/or direction, incumbents oversee students using national standards of care and Lab Manager and faculty approved standardized evaluation criteria. The work functions within the scope of a licensed registered nurse by providing assistance to students in practicing skills and patient care techniques. Through the use of standardized criteria, Lab Manager and faculty direction, and scope as a registered nurse, the incumbents guide students, make and adjust clinical assignments to meet student learning needs, and consult with the Lab Manager and Course Coordinator for any student weaknesses.

Job Description

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Guide students in practicing skills and patient care techniques using national standards of care and Lab Manager and faculty approved standardized evaluation criteria to assess student performance in campus laboratories and clinical settings.

  • Make and adjust clinical assignments based on student learning needs and appropriateness, assist Lab Manager and faculty to develop patient simulation scenarios, and update or create realistic practice scenarios using evidence-based practice and patient safety goals guidelines.

  • Act as a role model and resource for students in general matters pertaining to the nursing program and nursing practice and mentor students with special projects (ie. Student activities- mentor program, pinning ceremony, student excellence expo, health fairs, nursing club. etc.).

  • Facilitate safe clinical experiences for nursing students and patients.

  • Set-up and maintain on-campus labs and all technological equipment for student and faculty use, diagnose problems with equipment and make appropriate referrals for correction.

  • Provide routine lab maintenance including cleaning, repairing, and troubleshooting of malfunctions of large equipment (i.e.. IV equipment, manikins, medication carts, audiovisual equipment, computers, etc.).

  • Participate in department meetings; provide input on curriculum recommendations, including clinical planning, supervision, and evaluation.

  • Assist Lab Manager to orient new faculty and staff to equipment, supplies and laboratory procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing.

  • Four years recent beside nursing experience in acute care settings.

  • Two years acute care medical-surgical nursing experience

  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Salary Range: $33.49 to $43.55 (hourly).  Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity.
