Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board.

Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.

Virginia Western is seeking to fill a full-time Administrative Assistant position to serve as the office manager for the School of Health Professions. Provides clerical and administrative support for the Dean of Health Professions, other School support personnel, and supervises a part-time administrative support employee. Manages day-to-day operations, including but not limited to, scheduling of classes, preparing textbook orders from database files; maintaining confidential records; independently answering questions concerning academic and college policies, regulations, programs; composing correspondence; typing correspondence, and running advisement transcripts. This position will carry out numerous administrative functions to provide and maintain a professional work environment for all programs in the School of Health Professions for a smooth operation. Ensures that the volume of work is completed in a timely manner.
 
KSA's/Required Qualifications
 
In-depth knowledge of office management functions gained through experience as an office manager or considerable administrative support experience. Experience providing administrative support in a fast-paced office environment. Experience running and analyzing queries for preparing and/or completing reports. Working knowledge of the basic procedures for establishing and maintaining files and records. Experience maintaining utmost confidentiality with sensitive data. Experience explaining, interpreting, and applying with good judgement policies and procedures. Ability to interpret state and federal regulations and apply them appropriately. Excellent skills and working experience using MS Office Suite, database management, typing, spreadsheets, and the operation of office equipment. Experience using comprehensive software system(s). Experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Experience independently writing letters and other communications. Must have strong interpersonal skills in challenging situations.
