The faculty member will be a generalist in Speech Communication responsible for teaching a variety of speech courses. These include but are not limited to Introduction to Speech, Public Speaking, Interpersonal Communication, and Business and Professional Speaking. The faculty member will likely have 1-2 Dual Credit assignments off campus, or possibly an interactive assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree in Speech required; Speech Communication degree or a Communication degree with adequate coursework (18 hours) in Speaking, Rhetoric, and Persuasion would be acceptable
- Experience teaching college Speech classes
- Knowledge of basic computer use including Word, Excel, and e-mail
- Strong writing and research competency
- Willingness to teach online students, interactive students, Early College students, and Dual Credit students
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree
- Online teaching experience
- Knowledge of Learning Management System
- Dual credit teaching experience
- Strong leadership skills
Essential Functions
- Teach in classroom and online
- Teach 15 lecture equivalent hours of credit Speech courses each Fall and Spring semester
- Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy and Administrative Regulations published in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks
- Be available for 10 office hours per week for student questions via telephone or in person
- Serve on committees as assigned
- Fulfill faculty roles and responsibilities as outlined in Midland College Policy
- Participate in professional development—e.g., graduate coursework, publication and/or presentation of papers, conference attendance, professional training
- Participate in community service
- Participate in department, division, and college-wide activities
- Must be able to manage classroom and meet deadlines
- Face-to-face and online classes; interactive classes are possible; online assignments are likely
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move from office to classroom occasionally
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds
