Summary of Position

Residential Life at UNH prioritizes quality contact with students on the part of the RHD to facilitate student success and sense of belonging in our communities. We pride ourselves on creating welcoming and inclusive communities for all students. The RHD lives in a residence hall, and is responsible for managing all aspects of a university residence hall including:
  • Developmental supervision of student staff
  • Coordinating with other departments to maintain facilities.
  • Developmental contact with residents
  • Implementing an ongoing passive and educational curriculum
  • Building community through intentional programming

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Higher Education or a related field.
  • Two years experience working in a Residential Life Setting in higher education as an undergraduate, graduate student or professional
  • Knowledge of student development theory and other related theory
  • Experience as a conduct officer
  • Experience with Star Rez and Maxient
  • Ability to balance the needs of a hall facility, students and staff in the building.

Duty/Responsibility

Educational Outreach:
  • Initiating one-on-one developmental contact with residents to help them succeed and be retained at UNH.
  • Building strong connections with majority of residents in the building
  • Developing a strong sense of community within a residence hall.
  • Providing innovative educational and social programs and initiatives in the hall that align with the Residential Life Educational Curriculum
  • Connecting students with meaningful learning experiences and leadership opportunities
  • Advising a Hall Council
  • Writing and distributing a bi-weekly newsletter and bi-annual family newsletter
  • Serving as conduct officer for students to hold them accountable for behaviors and help them grow and learn through the process. Manage all conduct records in Maxient.
  • Supporting and referring students who need professional assistance to resources at UNH in both urgent and non-urgent situations.

Duty/Responsibility

Administration:
  • Coordinating with other departments to manage facilities and occupancy issues within hall.
  • Reporting and tracking facility concerns on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring that important procedures and policies (i.e. room changes, emergency relocations, reporting procedures for CREO, Bias Incidents and Police) are accurately and effectively followed and communicated to residents.
  • Developing effective working relationships between student staff and the housekeeping staff, facilities, fire and police departments.
  • Ensuring all conduct issues are resolved and appropriately documented in a timely manner.
  • Managing hall financial accounts and budgets
  • Meeting all requirements and deadlines (i.e. database entry, receipts, reports, Maxient conduct case management, star rez management, duty data entry etc.)
  • Responding in a timely manner to a high volume of emails from students, parents, and colleagues
  • Utilizing all manuals and resources in shared files

Duty/Responsibility

Supervision:
  • Providing Resident Assistants with high quality individual guidance and training to ensure high performance on their floor and in the building.
  • Providing Resident Assistants with quality group training, inspiration recognition, and team building Facilitating frequent, proactive assessments and reviews of staff performance.
  • Holding RAs accountable and making decisions about job statuses when RAs are not fulfilling responsibilities as outlined in the RA job contract.
  • Some RHDs supervise Assistant Hall Directors (AHDs are undergraduate seniors who also supervise RAs) in addition to Resident Assistants.

Duty/Responsibility

Department/Division Commitments:
  • Contributing in tangible ongoing ways to the Division/Department through multiple committee workgroups, positive and productive team membership, volunteering to assist with identified needs and projects in the department and division of student life. And
  • Actively participating in weekly department meetings and Educational Outreach weekly meetings
  • Determining ways to serve as a leader in the department and at UNH by investing in the success of all staff in Residential Life and collaborators.
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Duty/Responsibility

Responding to emergency situations:
  • Serving in the rotational on-call capacity for emergency and crisis management for the on-campus Residential Life population
  • Responding to issues that include but are not limited to:
    • mental health crises
    • facility issues
    • title IX violations
    • concerning student behavior
  • There are times when it is necessary to show up in person to respond, assist and support RA staff during a crisis situation.
  • Thoroughly documenting and reporting all incidents to appropriate staff at UNH.
