Description

 

This position is responsible for assisting the program head with oversight and leadership of the Medical Assisting department. Under the supervision of the Program Head and the appropriate Academic/Campus Dean, the Instructor is responsible for course content and syllabi for all assigned courses. The instructor will provide effective instruction in all assigned classes by implementing active learning strategies and focusing on student learning outcomes. The instructor must work in compliance with the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB) guidelines and must collaborate to maintain the highest level of accreditation. In addition, the instructor is responsible for the collaborative efforts with the faculty on the relationship for the clinical affiliations of the program. Vance-Granville supports a four-county area including Vance, Granville, Warren and Franklin. This position could be requested to support any of our four campuses.

Essential Duties

 

  • Assists in the design of the organization structure and coordinates all instructional activities within the program to include but not be limited to:
  • Preparing semester class schedules in collaboration with all constituents served.
  • Collaborate with the Program Head to ensure Responsible for program effectiveness, including outcomes, organization, administration, continuous review, planning, and development.
  • Selecting and requisitioning of textbooks and related materials for all campuses.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques regarding medical assisting skills training to prepare students for externship and the workforce.
  • Maintaining appropriate records on students.
  • Conduct class, lab, and/or clinical according to established meeting patterns.
  • Notify the Program Head and Academic Dean of any changes to class, lab, and/or clinical days and/or times.
  • Regularly participates as a member of assigned institutional committees.
  • Update Moodle course page to use in course before the start of the semester.
  • Communicate effectively and clearly (both written and oral communication) and interact effectively with students, faculty, and staff at all institutional levels.
  • Collaborate with Program Heads and Academic Deans regarding course assignments per semester.
  • Create and maintain course documents such as syllabi, objectives, tests, etc. The course syllabi must be submitted for review to the Program Head and Academic Dean each semester.
  • At all times, instructional personnel should be aware of the need to continue the personal and professional growth necessary in the performance of a faculty members duties.
  • Able to maintain records accurately and be able to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Ability to use MS office products including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to learn new products.
  • Working knowledge of NC Community College System policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in the discipline.
  • Credentialed in good standing in Medical assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
  • Be competent in the MAERB Core Curriculum objectives included in their assigned teaching, as evidenced by education and/or experience, and have instruction in education theory and techniques.
  • Have a minimum of two years of employment in a healthcare facility, including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by medical assistants.

 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelorette degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

 

Physical Demands

 

  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
