Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Director of Nursing. An adjunct faculty position requires professionals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates for this position must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask as well as the ability to engage groups of people with complicated material. They must also be able to use technology sufficiently to use a learning management system (canvas) and respond to email.

NUR110: Concepts of Mental Health Nursing

Clinicals: Wednesdays or Fridays, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm

This course focuses on adapting the nursing process to the practice of psychiatric-mental health nursing. Psychiatric disorders; psychiatric nursing concepts; nursing interventions; therapies; professionalism and continual professional growth; and community roles and services are stressed. Additional topics include suicide risk and appropriate interventions through the lifespan. Mental status exam will be performed on a geriatric client to determine cognitive status. Clinical experiences are provided in a psychiatric facility emphasizing therapeutic communication. Pediatric and geriatric concepts are integrated.

Responsibilities

Utilizing, creating, or modifying lessons, activities, assignments, and assessments to meet the established course description as well as program, course, and college learning outcomes while addressing each students needs as diverse learners.

Meeting all college deadlines for submission of attendance, grades, and data collection for assessment of student learning.
Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts while motivating students to actively participate in their educational experiences.

Integrating instructional and classroom technology (if applicable) appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning.

Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.

Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

 


Minimum Qualifications

 

Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois - current license.

Master Degree in Nursing.

2 years of clinical experience.

Preferred

2 years of teaching experience at the community college level or above.

Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations.

Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into teaching and learning process.
