Position Summary:
The Director serves as the academic and administrative leader for the Adult Transitions program, responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of adult education initiatives, programs, and services. This position requires a dynamic leader who is passionate about serving adult learners, fostering community partnerships, and promoting educational access and equity. This role requires a deep understanding of educational policies and the capacity to drive strategic initiatives determined by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and WCC. As the liaison between agencies, the Director serves as primary point of communication and collaboration.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide all administrative oversight and supervision essential to the day-to-day program operations at multiple program sites.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve program goals and objectives that are aligned with the mission and vision of the adult education division of Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and WCC organization.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluations of adult education programs, including high school equivalency (GED) preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), workforce development, and other relevant offerings.
  • Ensure the development and delivery of high-quality, learner-centered curricula and instructional materials that meet the diverse needs of adult learners.
  • Create and provide professional development opportunities, training, and coaching. Complete yearly performance evaluations. Provide all administrative oversight and supervision essential to the day-to-day operations of the program at multiple locations. development activities.
  • Provide leadership in the delivery of comprehensive student support services, including academic advising, tutoring, career guidance, and transition to postsecondary opportunities, all aimed at promoting student retention, persistence, and success.
  • Develop and manage the budgets for the program, ensuring effective use of resources and compliance with funding requirements and grant guidelines.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of data related to program enrollment, student outcomes, retention rates, and other performance metrics to inform decision-making and program improvement efforts.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong partnerships with community organization, K-12 schools, workforce development agencies, employers and other stakeholders to enhance educational opportunities and resources for adult learners.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing adult education programs, as well as accreditation standard set forth by relevant accrediting bodies.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communication staff to develop and implement strategies to promote adult education programs, recruit students, and raise awareness within the community.
  • Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule:
Current work schedule is typically Monday-Friday (8am-5pm) on campus with one day remote with occasional nights or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent combination in Education, Adult Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • 3+ years experience in adult education administration, program management, or related field,
  • Experience with grant writing and management, specifically Section 107 State School Aid and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
  • Knowledge and experience with GED Manager, the GED testing process, and the State of Michigan School-to- Work GED Test Voucher Program.
  • Comprehensive understanding of CASAS Assessments, including administration procedures and student placement methodologies.
  • Proficient in the purpose, function, application, and reports within the Michigan Adult Education Reporting System (MAERS). Capable of analyzing data concerning program performance and aligning with state adult education benchmarks.

  • Masters degree in Education, Adult Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and educational technology.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a focus on serving underrepresented and underserved populations in the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, analyze data, and make data-driven decisions to improve program effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, with a track record of implementing innovative strategies to improve educational outcomes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-orientated environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience with WCC student and data management systems.
  • Experience supervising staff in a community college setting.

Salary/Hourly Rate:
$67,093 - $73,802

Salary Comments:
Current Washtenaw Community College Employees Salary is determined by BOT Policy 5005***An Administrative Group employee whose job has been reclassified or who is promoted to a new position shall have his/her salary set at the new salary range minimum or at 10% above current salary, whichever is greater. Starting rate/salary is determined based on education and work history listed on application.
