The Bridge Program in the Orientation and Student Success (OSS) department is designed to provide historically marginalized student populations access to unique opportunities in higher education and at SLCC. The Bridge Specialist will assist the Bridge Coordinators, and Bridge Assistant Director in providing personalized guidance, mentorship, and support for students in the OSS Bridge Cohort and ensure office operations. The Bridge Specialist will represent OSS and have the opportunity to work with departments and partners across the College.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Participate as a team member of the Orientation & Student Success (OSS) Office by:
A. Assisting in the ongoing development of the Bridge Program.
B. Following-up with students in the Bridge Program by assisting them in locating needed resources; encouraging them to continuously enroll in school; and directing them to an advisor for any academic concerns (e.g., academic alerts, degree plans etc.)
C. Researching and creating activities to encourage a learning environment at SLCC.
D. Assisting in recruitment and retention efforts for the Bridge Program.
E. Being familiar with the SLCC registration and enrollment process.
F. Being able to articulate the purpose of SLCC’s general education classes and be able to teach new students how to register for classes.
G. Participating in the event planning and execution.
H. Having the ability to motivate and excite new students.
I. Creating a welcoming environment for all students.
J. Performing clerical functions such as data entry, spreadsheets and other functions as assigned.
K. Collaborating with the OSS Orientation and Transition team to present new student orientations at least once a month.
L. Ensuring professional development by attending a series of diversity, equity and college sponsored trainings.
M. Participating in Bridge related trainings hosted by coordinators.
N. Planning and attending events for Bridge cohort as needed.
O. Occasionally reaching out to Bridge students about SLCC events and activities.
P. Maintaining and updating Bridge Program social media.
Q. Being dependable and punctual.
R. Other duties as assigned.
A. Front desk experience, computer skills
B. Experience presenting in front of audiences of varying sizes.
C. Bilingual or multilingual ability and cultural fluency.
A. Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
B. Must be a current SLCC undergraduate student or recent graduate (within 1 semester)..
C. Must be eligible to work in the United States.

F. Basic computer knowledge, specifically office software on either Microsoft and/or Apple platforms as well as SLCC’s computer systems (Banner, Degreeworks).
G. Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
H. Effective teamwork and communication skills around conflict resolution.
I. Gather, process, and organize large amounts of information accurately.
J. Demonstrate professionalism.
Part-time 15-20 hours per week, not to exceed 125 hours per month.
Successful completion of a criminal background check may be required for this position.
