Position Information Posting Number 2692683934 Job Title Chemistry Instructor Job Category Faculty Position Summary Information Job Description Summary Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan’s eastern shore, is seeking applications for the position of full-time Chemistry instructor. The ability to teach introductory, general inorganic, and organic chemistry is essential. Successful candidates must also demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, show the ability to teach effectively using a variety of instructional methods, possess facility in advising and mentoring students as well as adjunct instructors, and be prepared to become an integral part of the department and college. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field required, with Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree preferred. The successful candidate will have prior community college teaching experience. Preferred Qualifications All applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students and facilitate student learning. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required. The best applicants will also demonstrate the ability to connect with both traditional and nontraditional students in a rural community college setting. The position is scheduled to begin in the Spring or Fall semester of 2014.
