Employment Opportunity Position: SYSTEMS/DATA ANALYST Salary: $4,084/month Range 22 Closing Date: March 10, 2014, 5:00 pm Beginning Date: April, 2014 (approximate) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required: Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution with major course work in computer information systems and database technologies, plus substantial continued education and training in the field AND two years professional experience directly developing or supporting an integrated database system in key technical and administrative roles demonstrating progressively increasing duties and responsibilities that include those defined for this position OR Associate degree in related field and four years of appropriate experience Be sensitive to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students General Description: Under the supervision of the Director of Information technology Services, perform a variety of complex and technical duties in the analysis, design, programming, testing and maintenance of the district’s enterprise business and student system. The data analyst must possess good technical knowledge and skill in the areas of computer science, application programming, and the operating systems used by the district, and the interpersonal skills necessary to evaluate complex business problems and effectively communicate alternative solutions at the technical and user levels. Essential Functions Analyze, develop, code, test, debug, and maintain programs of enterprise student and business applications of moderate complexity and scope Learns technical aspects of functional areas and is exposed to functional process and operations Create system and end-user documentation of new programs and changes to existing application systems in accordance with established standards and procedures. Recommends standards and procedures within the programming area, including specifications, documentation and production turnover, and identify potential areas where existing standards and procedures require change Assist in programming in the 4GL language and Ellucian languages. Test and install all custom programs Evaluate, plan, install and test all new releases for installed Application Systems to assure a current and reliable system. These systems currently include the Ellucian Integrated Financial and Student Information Systems and several Web based applications.· Provide Database Administration for the UniData/Ellucian Colleague integrated student and financial system Provide Database Management skills for related Business Systems, including Microsoft Access, and flat file systems Keep accurate and complete business records, and system documentation, for all areas of responsibilities. Be sensitive to and understand the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students Knowledge of: Principals and techniques of computer programming, basic on-line programming and programming documentation Various computer programming languages Operating procedures of computer systems and related equipment Principles and practices of data base management systems Principles and techniques of system analysis and design. Principles and practices of database management systems. Principles of system analysis and design. Ability to: Analyze, design, program, install and maintain complex computer systems Identify, evaluate and solve program problems Operate a variety of computer software applications and peripheral equipment Read, interpret and apply complex technical publications, manuals and other documents Analyze data and develop logical solutions to complex data processing application programming problems Prepare clear and concise computerized reports Understand and follow oral and written instructions Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Meet project schedule and timelines Plan and organize work schedule How to Apply: All applicants must provide the following items by the closing date in order to be considered for this recruitment.
