The Intensive English Program (IEP) at South Seattle Colleges seeks to maintain a roster of qualified, experienced and dynamic ESL professionals interested in and available for part-time teaching positions that may become available within the program. In anticipation of possible openings throughout the academic year, applications are accepted continuously for temporary part-time appointments. Positions may become available at any time and are typically filled on a quarterly basis.
About the Program:
The IEP is an intensive academic-preparation ESL program for international students on student visas who plan to study in one of the Academic or Professional Technical programs at South. Students may also be studying prior to enrolling at one of the many US based colleges or universities. The program has five levels of instruction and students who complete level five transition into college English classes without further assessment. The program provides students with 200 hours of instruction per quarter. Fall, Winter and Spring quarters are 10 weeks, while Summer quarter is 8 weeks. Student in the upper level may be eligible for concurrent enrollment in specific academic courses. About the Candidate:
The successful candidate is able to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, possesses superior ESL instructional skills to meet the needs and expectations of international students seeking high quality academic English language preparation for college, has experience teaching ESL in a college or university setting, is proficient using technology in instruction, and demonstrates a strong commitment to the TESOL profession.

Current Resume or CV: Include dates of employment periods and education (candidates who do not provide dates will not be considered). For teaching experience listed on resume, indicate whether positions were full-time or part-time.
List of three professional references with telephone and email contact information, including at least one supervisor from within the last five years.

Teach between one (1) and three (3) 50-minute intensive English classes per day, five days per week, for ten weeks (per quarter), according to established IEP course outlines and curriculum.
Provide course syllabi and information sheets for each class taught.
Generate lesson plans, learning assessments, mid-term progress and final grade reports, and other required documents within the guidelines of the IEP program.
Review student work, provide feedback and return assignments in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate student attendance records in Engrade; inform advisors when students are challenged by cross-cultural adjustment or other issues outside of the classroom.
Conference as needed with individual students outside of class.
Work collaboratively with other IEP faculty and the Student Support Services team in the Center for International Education.
Keep up-to-date with program and college communications and announcements.
Attend program graduation at end of quarter.
Assist with quarterly placement testing and/or placements (extra stipend).
Attend quarterly faculty meetings.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & ABILITIES:
At least six (6) months’ recent experience teaching in an intensive English or academic English program for adult international students, at an accredited institution of higher learning in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, etc.
Experience teaching all levels of ESL from beginning to advanced, and all skill areas including reading, writing/composition, grammar, listening, speaking & pronunciation.
Experience with testing, assessment, and evaluation of student learning.
Experience with the use of computers and technology in teaching ESL.
Native speaker fluency in both spoken and written English.
Eligible to work in the United States.
Two (2) years full-time equivalent experience teaching ESL in an intensive English program (either in US or overseas)
One (1) year full-time equivalent overseas experience teaching English as a foreign language.
Experience learning a foreign language.
Experience teaching ESL elective courses such as TOEFL (iBT) preparation, cross-cultural communication, American culture, etc.
Experience working in the Washington State community college system.
