Job Description


The Patient Care Specialist II is responsible for providing clinical support to physicians and patients in a Multi-Specialty Clinic setting. These duties may include: patient care, vital signs, assisting physician, performing various laboratory tests and quality control indicators, telephone triage.

  • Prepares patients to see physician(s).

  • Responsible for preparing patients’ charts prior to visit.  This includes any pertinent notes and/or lab results and could vary depending on specialty.
  • Administers medications.  Performs venipuncture, starts and regulates IV fluids.
  • Laboratory duties including performing laboratory tests and quality control indicators, preparing forms and follow up results.
  • Assists physicians in procedures and performs various test independently. 
  • Operates spirometry, audiometry, tympanogram, EKG and vision tester.
  • Files and evaluates lab work.
  • Schedules consult appointments, laboratory test, and other diagnostic tests.  This may include providing instructions to both patient and/or family member(s).
  • Answers telephones, screens calls, confirms appointments, maintains appointment schedule following office scheduling procedures. 
  • Screens patient phone calls and give appropriate advice to patients. 
  • Schedules consult appointments, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Confirms patients’ prescriptions and their understanding of dosage and instructions.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of medical supplies for the practice.
  • Cleans and stocks medical instruments, including preparation of room for next patient visit.
  • Occasional back up to Front Desk, including registering of patients and taking payments.
  • Performs other services as required by Office Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 

  • Experience operating electrocardiogram, lab and other medical equipment

Licensure:

  • Current Virginia RN or LPN License OR Current Virginia CMA Certificate, Presentation of State License documentation is required upon employment and annually thereafter in order to attain and/or remain in Job

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard.  Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs.  May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
