Job description
The role


We are seeking to appoint a fixed term, 1 year maternity cover Lecturer in Ecology and Environmental Management in the School of Applied Sciences to support the teaching on our MSc Wildlife Biology and Conservation and BSc courses in Animal and Conservation Biology, Biological Sciences and Marine & Freshwater Biology.


We are looking to appoint a candidate who will deliver high-quality teaching in the areas of environmental management and environmental impact assessment, field habitat survey techniques such as Phase 1 and human-nature interactions with specific responsibility for modules in Habitat Assessment, Humans and Wildlife and Field and Laboratory Skills. Taxonomic knowledge of major plant groups would be an advantage, along with experience of supporting student project work in field-, laboratory- and data-based projects.


Candidates will be responsible for the delivery of contemporary, applied education to both onsite and distance-learning students, so familiarity with supporting off-site students would be beneficial. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for education, who will commit to enhancement and innovation in teaching.


Who are we looking for?


The ideal candidate will have:

  • A doctoral level qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Experience of development and delivery of module teaching and assessment across different levels, along with support of student project work
  • Experience of undertaking standard UK habitat assessment and surveying techniques
  • Applied knowledge of conservation issues in relation to development and human-wildlife interactions
  • Taxonomic skills in major UK plant groups and ideally other major UK taxa
