VP Student Success

Job Description

New Mexico State University at Alamogordo is seeking to fill the position of VP Student Success.

Required Qualifications: Master's Degree in a related field and 5 years full-time related professional experience. Knowledge and understanding of the integrated functions of college-level registrar, admissions, financial aid, and student affairs. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Experience with financial/business analysis techniques, budget preparation and fiscal management; knowledge of the procedures and processes associated with the development and dissemination of curriculum catalogs and student handbooks. Knowledge and understanding of student career and academic advisement principles, methods, and procedures at the college level. Knowledge and understanding of a range of student life issues and concerns, academic standards governing student probation, suspension, and/or expulsion. Supervisory experience and knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, establishing priorities and scheduling work assignments, employee development, performance, and fostering a cooperative work environment. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications; ability to develop and maintain record-keeping systems and procedures, gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Qualifications Preferred: Experience working in a community college setting and an understanding of the community college mission and philosophy.

Responsibilities: Interprets and enforces student affairs policies and procedures as they pertain to the community college or division; monitors and administers processes associated with individual student academic standing, as appropriate, to include probations, suspensions, and/or promotions. Directs and oversees student enrollment activities, to include admissions, registration, financial aid and scholarships, student records, and data collection. Directs and oversees academic advisement, career counseling, and student discipline programs; provides guidance and support as appropriate for various student life activities. Establishes and implements short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Oversees all facets of the daily operations of the NMSU Alamogordo Student Success offices, ensuring compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Oversees and directs the planning and development of student information documents and promotional materials, may include college catalogs and student handbooks. Researches and prepares integrated reports on department fiscal and operational activities and on student costs. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

New Mexico State University at Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a comprehensive community college located in the foothills, at the base of the Sacramento Mountains. This vantage point overlooks the city of Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin. The service area of the school includes Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), White Sands Missile Range, and stretches beyond the view to include the Mescalero Apache Reservation and approximately twenty villages and towns.
