The board that oversees Moorpark, Oxnard and Ventura colleges has hired a recruiting firm with local ties to help it find a chancellor to succeed James Meznek, who will retire in July.
The Ventura County Community College District board voted 5-0 late Tuesday to hire Ventura-based Community College Search Services.
James Walker, the firm's managing partner, was an interim chancellor for the district and president at Moorpark College. One of the consultants, John Romo, was president of Santa Barbara City College.
"They have the benefit of having some experience with the district," Trustee Dianne McKay said before the vote. "Their price was quite competitive. It seems like this is a well-priced, well-positioned firm to do our work for us."
The firm is charging $25,000 for the search, with which the district will assist, said Stephen Blum, chairman of the board. The board had the option of having the firm do the search itself or with district help, and "it will be less money that way," Blum said.
