Rio Hondo College, which only weeks ago learned it is losing its president, is also losing one of its vice presidents, Joanna Downey, interim vice president of academic affairs.
Downey will leave June 30 to become vice president of Cerritos College. She took the academic affairs post in December, when Paul Parnell resigned. Prior to that, she served as the dean for arts and cultural programs.
Facing those vacancies, the Rio Hondo College board of trustees will meet Monday to discuss the selection process to choose an interim president, officials said.
Rio Hondo College President Ted Martinez Jr. announced April13 he will retire June 30.
Martinez has worked 41 years as a community college educator, including the last five as president of Rio Hondo.
Susan Herney, the college's director of marketing and communications, said the board will likely select an interim president while they search for a permanent replacement.
"Searches are extensive," Herney said. "Usually a committee is formed; it's a very thorough process."
The board meeting, which will be conducted in closed session, is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Administration Building, 3600 Workman Mill Road.
If any action is taken by the board during the closed session, it will be announced at the end of the meeting.
The vice president position was posted nationally on March 1 and the application process closed April 12, Herney said.
