Valentina Purtell, interim provost at NOCCD's school of continuing education
The North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) Board of Trustees unanimously voted Tuesday, June 9, 2015 to appoint Valentina Purtell as interim provost of the School of Continuing Education (SCE). Purtell begins her new position on July 1, 2015. Valentina will step in to fill a vacancy left by Dr. Greg Schulz who served as SCE’s Provost for three years. Dr. Shulz has accepted the interim president position at Fullerton College.
Valentina began her career at NOCCCD in 2002 as an ESL Program Assistant, quickly moving up to serve as the ESL Program Manager. She has been SCE’s Dean of Instruction and Student Services at the Cypress Center since 2010. Prior to joining SCE, Valentina worked as an instructor at several institutions, including Hope International University, Chapman University, and Rivne State Humanitarian University.
“Valentina has proven herself an intelligent and enthusiastic leader,” said Interim Chancellor Fred Williams. “Her work at the state level advocating for adult education issues has been a critical component of SCE’s success.”
Valentina earned her B.A. and M.A. in Applied Linguistics from the Rivne State Humanitarian University in the Ukraine. She has served on the Board for the Association of Community and Continuing Education (ACCE) since 2011, and has been active on several statewide committees, including the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) Noncredit Taskforce.
