Lee J. Marchant has been named to the chairman of the board at
Ivy Tech Community College. Marchant (Bloomington) serves as president and CEO of LJM Enterprises, Inc. He was appointed to the board by Governor Mitch Daniels in 2005 and reappointed in 2008. Marchant is a past Ivy Tech Foundation chairman. It is believed that this is the first time in Indiana higher education that a former foundation chairman was later named a state board of trustee chairman.
“I’m greatly appreciative to my fellow trustees for their support and relish the challenge of building on Ivy Tech’s tremendous level of success,” said Marchant. “There is nothing else in America like Ivy Tech. We are the country’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system, we continue to experience incredible growth, and yet no institution is as agile and responsive in fulfilling the opportunities created by our dynamic local economy.”
Marchant replaces Kaye H. Whitehead as the chair. Whitehead (Muncie) was honored for her services as the outgoing chairperson at the August 12 state board meeting. She remains on the board with a term ending in 2012.
Anne K. Shane was named the vice chair of the board. Shane (Indianapolis) serves as the Vice President of Strategic Growth Initiatives for The Mind Trust. She was appointed to the board in 2007 and reappointed earlier this year.
V. Bruce Walkup was named the secretary for the board. Walkup (Sullivan) serves as the Regional President for First Financial Bank. He was appointed to the board for a second time in 2005 and reappointed in 2008. His first appointment came in 2001 and he served on the board for two years until 2003.
