Umpqua Community College president Blaine Nisson says he will retire in December

After 6 years on the job at Umpqua Community College, the school’s President Dr. Blaine Nisson will retire by the end of the year.
Dr. Nisson made the announcement Tuesday night, October 5th, 2010, after a special College Board of Director meeting. Nisson’s retirement will be effective on December 1st, 2010.

Nisson says he’s retiring to spend more time with his family after working in the college administration field for 38 years.

His tenure is marked with a large transition of new programs and student body growth. Nisson says one of the things he’s most proud of is the Southern Oregon Wine Institute (SOWI), a two year program that teaches students how to grow grapes and make wine as a business.
