Kaye Walter named chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College's central Indiana region

Ivy Tech Community College has chosen a community college executive from Florida with a background in chemistry and divinity as its new chancellor for the Central Indiana region.
B. Kaye Walter, executive vice president and chief learning officer at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla., will oversee Ivy Tech's expanding enrollment and ambitious campus construction plans.
Ivy Tech President Thomas Snyder said Walter, 56, was successful in Florida in two areas that are a priority at Ivy Tech: attaining high graduation rates and making sure students get credits that are transferable to four-year schools.
"She can help us . . . based on what she's done before," Snyder said. "Valencia is considered a standard bearer in those areas."
The school's search committee interviewed about a half-dozen candidates to replace Hank Dunn, who left in January. Snyder said the committee liked Walter's experience in urban community colleges. Before she took the job at Valencia in 2005, she was vice president for academic services at Kansas City Kansas Community College.
