October 27, 2010
Hawkeye Community College temporarily has a new vice president of academic affairs after Linda Allen was elevated to interim president in August.
David Schachtsiek, a retired college and university administrator, stepped into the position on an interim basis Oct. 15. He was introduced to the HCC board of trustees Tuesday. The board appointed Allen interim president Aug. 31 after accepting Greg Schmitz's resignation to become president of VGM Education.
Schachtsiek, one of three finalists for the position, is receiving an annual salary of $134,000. The finalists visited campus and met with various groups during the interview process.
Before coming to Hawkeye, Schachtsiek was interim president of Quincy (Ill.) University for about 18 months ending in June 2008. He started at Quincy in 2002 as associate vice president for academic affairs. He also served as senior vice president for academic and student affairs. Prior to Quincy, Schachtsiek was dean of district education services for Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Ill.
