After eight years of exemplary service and major accomplishments, Dr. Jan Brobst, the second chancellor of South Louisiana Community College, informed the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors today of her intent to retire from the college on December 31, 2010.
"After considerable thought and discussion with family, I would like to announce my decision to retire as chancellor of South Louisiana Community College," Brobst said in a written statement to faculty and staff today. "I am extremely proud of SLCC and the opportunity it has afforded to so many individuals in our area to pursue their college education. It has been an extremely rewarding experience to have served as chancellor and to have led the college over the past eight years through numerous significant milestones and successful endeavors," she added.
Brobst, whose contract was recently renewed by the LCTCS Board of Supervisors, said her decision to retire at this time is strictly personal and that she would like to spend more time with her family and grandchildren. She plans to relocate to the Dallas area to be closer to her family.
"I would like to thank Jan for her service to SLCC and the Lafayette area," said LCTCS President Dr. Joe D. May. "Jan has done a truly remarkable job as a leader in her role as chancellor of the college and in growing what once was a fledgling college into the outstanding, thriving institution that we see today in the Acadiana area. She will be greatly missed and it will be difficult to fill her shoes."
"I am saddened to hear the news about Dr. Brobst's retirement. Jan has done a terrific job in growing and developing the college into a real source of pride for the Lafayette area. She has been extremely active in the community and with connecting the college with local business and industry partners. She has definitely placed the college on the right path for success," said LCTCS Board Member Brett Mellington. "She will definitely be missed by the faculty, staff, and students. We all wish her the best in her future endeavors."
LCTCS Board Member Deni Grisette said, "It has been a pleasure to know and work with Dr. Brobst over the past few years both personally and professionally. She truly has a passion for education and through her tireless efforts both on and off campus - SLCC has a solid reputation in the local community. Jan has done a tremendous job promoting and growing the college in the eight years she has been here. She has truly made a significant impact and will be greatly missed ."
Brobst has led the college since September 2002. During her tenure, she oversaw several major initiatives at SLCC, including achieving initial SACS accreditation for the college.
