Lane Glenn named president of Northern Essex Community College
December 24, 2010
Lane Glenn has been selected as the next president of Northern Essex Community College.
By a 5 to 4 vote, college trustees yesterday chose the school's academic affairs vice president, Lane Glenn, to succeed David Hartleb as president.
If Glenn receives the approval of the Board of Higher Education at its Feb. 1 meeting, he will take charge of the college that is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Hartleb, who makes $196,000 a year, plans to retire June 30.
"I'm humbled by the support I've received over the last few months," Glenn said. "I'm very excited to be given this opportunity."
The college has "a lot of things in motion," including increasing the percentage of students who complete the courses in which they have enrolled, and he wants to continue the momentum, he said.
The community college has campuses in Haverhill and Lawrence and draws thousands of students from throughout the region.
