City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Board of Trustees, under the leadership of CCC Chairman Martin Cabrera, Jr. approved the appointment of Debra Ann Gurney, RN, BSN, MS, EdD as Executive Director of Nursing Programs at today’s board meeting.
“City Colleges is committed to preparing our students for careers in high growth fields such as healthcare, including the nursing profession. We recognize that we serve a tremendously diverse population and we are dedicated to equipping all of our students with skills that prepare them to be successful in the 21st century workplace,” said CCC Chancellor Cheryl L. Hyman.
The new executive director plans a five-step evidence based assessment of all the CCC nursing programs to determine their strengths and their weaknesses. This will include a complete review of curriculum, and it will be part of a larger effort to strengthen CCC’s health care offerings.
“Dr. Gurney brings a wealth of experience to City Colleges that will allow her to support accreditation, student completion of the program and employment of nursing students,” said CCC Provost Angela Henderson.“We look forward to her leadership as we work to create first-class nursing programs across the district and expand all of our health care programs to ensure we meet the market demands in these growing fields.”
