Northwest Iowa Community College trustees voted unanimously Monday afternoon to name Alethea Stubbe the next president of the college, making her the first woman to hold the position.
Stubbe was the lone candidate to replace Bill Giddings, who is retiring in May.
Currently vice president of education and learning services as well as board secretary, Stubbe has worked for NICC since 1991. She was a full-time faculty member in the business department for 12 years.
Stubbe was present on campus for Monday’s vote, taken largely by phone conference, after three public meetings last week and a closed board session Friday night. The board had planned to vote on the hiring after its closed session, but due to a clerical error, the public meeting was not advertised as required by Iowa Code.
