Making Genesee Community College's new Roz Steiner Art Gallery an integral part of both community and college life is the mission of Emily Pfeiffer.
The Geneseo woman was recently named part-time manager of the Gallery, which will have its grand opening next month. The Gallery is adjacent to the Genesee Center for the Arts on GCC's Batavia campus, 1 College Rd.
"I am really looking forward to increasing community involvement and awareness of the arts in the GLOW region and to allow our students and staff to see the quality of work being produced in our area," said Pfeiffer, a Campus Center associate at GCC's Dansville Campus Center in Livingston County.
The new gallery -- a 1,700 square foot addition to the Center for the Arts -- features modular walls which can be used to accommodate a variety of exhibits featuring visual works, sculpture, ceramics and other media. The gallery will also use "smart technology" to make new media and Web-based exhibits possible.
The Center for the Arts opened in 1991, but its exhibition space has been limited.
The Steiner Gallery, Pfeiffer said, is "a wonderful opportunity to get students involved in the arts, not only for fine arts majors who will have the opportunity to show their work and be involved in the installation of exhibitions, but for students of other majors to be exposed to new experiences."
