Nova Scotia Community College
April 27, 2011
The fourth president of Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) is very familiar with the College’s commitment to improving Nova Scotia’s economy and quality of life through education and innovation.
"After an extensive national search, the best candidate to lead NSCC into its next exciting chapter is Don Bureaux," says Michael Kontak, Chair, NSCC Board of Governors. "Mr. Bureaux has served as acting president for the past year. His history with the College combined with his accomplishments as an adult educator and administrator give him a rich combination of experience and perspective that will take NSCC to a new level of innovation in applied education and research."
The search for NSCC’s new president began last May with the retirement of Dr. Joan McArthur-Blair. A presidential search committee comprised of NSCC employees, students and members of the Board of Governors partnered with Janet Wright & Associates, an executive search firm. Candidates from across Canada were interviewed by the search committee. The Board of Governors accepted and approved the recommendation of the search committee and offered the position to Mr. Bureaux.
"It is a tremendous honour to be asked to lead an organization of people who are so passionate about accessible, relevant, post-secondary education," says Mr. Bureaux. "In my heart, I believe that college education empowers individuals to build their own career success into stronger, sustainable communities for Nova Scotia."
Don Bureaux’s term as NSCC president begins immediately. Mr. Bureaux is a Certified General Accountant who holds a Masters in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University.
