John Dever named president of Virginia's Thomas Nelson Community College

John T. Dever was named president of Thomas Nelson Community College Thursday afternoon.

Dever, a Newport News resident, began his community college career at TNCC in 1975 as an English instructor. He officially begins his post by October 1, according to Virginia Community College System.

Since 2004, Dever has served as executive vice president of academic and student services at Northern Virginia Community College. He has also worked at Blue Ridge Community College and Tidewater Community College.

Dever succeeds Alvin Schexnider, who is retiring this fall after serving as TNCC's president for the last three years.
