Clatsop Community College’s Stephen Schoonmaker will become president of The College of the Ouachitas.
Schoonmaker will begin in his new position in January. He succeeds Barry Ballard who announced his retirement in May.
The College’s Board of Trustees selected Schoonmaker after a nationwide search with more than 50 applicants.
Schoonmaker was one of five candidates recommended to the Board for the position by a 15-member presidential search committee. The Board selected three finalists who were invited to the school for campus and community tours, meetings with faculty and staff members, and public meet-and-greet sessions.
Schoonmaker is the vice president of Instruction at Clatsop Community College. Previously, he served as vice president of Instruction and Student Services at Southwestern Oregon Community College.
