A veteran Spartanburg Community College administrator will serve as the college's interim president until a successor to Dr. Para Jones is named.
The college announced Tuesday that Henry Giles, the executive vice president of business affairs, will serve as the interim president effective Feb. 1.
Jones resigned after accepting the presidency of Stark State College in Canton, Ohio. Jones replaced Dan Terhune as president of the local technical college in 2009, and her last day at the school will be Jan. 31.
Bruce Johnson, chairman of the SCC commission, said Giles has 40 years of experience with the college, and the commission is confident that his appointment will ensure a seamless transition during the presidential search.
Cheri Anderson-Hucks, director of marketing and public relations, said the commission will conduct a national search for the next president of the school, and the search could take up to six months.
