"I feel great about it. This is where our growth is,"
said Hartleb, president of Northern Essex Community College, which is
now headquartered in Haverhill.
The new NECC Riverwalk campus, where a grand opening
was held last week, combined with three other current and planned
college buildings in downtown Lawrence, will soon dwarf enrollment in
Haverhill in the next several years, he said.
In Lawrence, NECC buildings are now at 45 Franklin St.,
78 Amesbury St. and the Riverwalk, which consists of 26,000 square feet
of renovated mill space. A $26.6 million Allied Health and Technology
Center also is planned for the city's former In Town Mall property.
Hartleb explained the demand for training in the health
and technology fields, along with the academic needs of the city's
predominant Latino population, are driving NECC's enrollment boom in
