Genesee Community College in New York approves new strategic plan

Genesee Community College will develop new student success initiatives, maintain financial sustainability, and reach out to the community in innovative ways under a new strategic plan adopted by the Board of Trustees Monday night.
The Board, meeting at the Batavia campus for its regular monthly meeting, unanimously approved the strategic plan developed by a 20-member strategic planning steering team during the past year.
The plan continues the college's long tradition of personalized student service, and emphasis on community outreach and economic development. For example, the college plans to increase the use of career services as one way to enhance student success, and bring productivity-building training programs to more area businesses through The BEST Center.
The new plan, which covers the years 2011-2013, focuses on six strategic priorities: student success and preparedness, faculty and staff success, economic development and impact, relevant and impactful initiatives for college and community, culture of trust and innovation, and financial sustainability. Within those six priorities the plan seeks to achieve 30 outcomes or goals.
President James M. Sunser said the new plan will help Genesee Community College maintain its tradition of excellence.
''Strategic planning has become a best practice in higher education,'' Dr. Sunser said. ''This is the college's first comprehensive strategic plan, and it will help us focus our efforts on our most important priorities. On a day-to-day basis, the strategic plan will help us do the best work we can possibly do.''
