Partnership between UT-Brownsville and Texas Southmost College ends after 20 years
University of Texas System regents voted unanimously Wednesday to end a 20-year-old partnership between UT-Brownsville and Texas Southmost College.
The university and the community college, which share a campus in Brownsville, have differed on questions of governance, admissions, finance and other matters.
The UT System owns four buildings on the campus. Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa said the partnership would wind down by Aug. 31, 2015 .
Regent Janiece Longoria faulted Texas Southmost's Board of Trustees for what she called "unreasonable and unrelenting demands," though she didn't specify the demands. She said that the UT System floated a revised partnership agreement but that Texas Southmost never responded.
