Job Description:

Founded in 1967, Blue Ridge Community College has served the residents of the central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia for over 50 years. Its comprehensive program of instruction includes associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in occupational/technical and college/university transfer programs. The College also provides non-credit workforce training and special interest classes for individuals, business, and industry.

Blue Ridge Community College seeks an energetic Admissions Advisor to provide comprehensive and intensive onboarding, and enrollment services for both credit and non-credit students. Position may work from the Waynesboro Outpost or the main campus in Weyers Cave.

 
Duties and Responsibilities:
Admissions Advisors are the primary point of contact for new students, serving as a resource and guide to prospective students and applicants through the onboarding process. The Advisor provides high-quality service, embracing a holistic model of care and using the case management approach to new student onboarding, decreasing fragmentation of services and providing quality care across a continuum of enrollment requirements. The Advisor will provide guidance and direction from the moment of first inquiry to the time of registration, decreasing the length of time spent from being interested in college to register for college.
The Admissions Advisor collaborates with colleagues to remediate barriers to prospective student enrollment, with the goal of enrolling a prospect within 24-48 hours of first inquiry. The successful Admissions Advisor will:
  • Host recruitment events to provide information about credit and non-credit degrees and programs,
  • Provide internal and external customer service,
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of communication,
  • Assist students with completion of required documents,
  • Review incoming documents,
  • Review and resolve any student stops/holds,
  • Introduce students to the few classes of their program,
  • Understand course and program requirements in order to advise students appropriately concerning academic, workforce development and continuing education courses and programs.
  • Remain apprised of changes in program and course requirements to provide accurate information,
  • Assist with understanding financial obligations, payment options, and aid application processes, and
  • Assist students with registration.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in a higher education environment and/or related education/training/certification; Understanding of the community college mission; Demonstrated ability to work in dynamic student-centered environment with diverse populations. Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; Outstanding leadership and organizational skills; Demonstrated ability with technology; Experience in working in a fast-paced environment.
 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in admissions, academic advising, or related function within higher education; Experience in a community college setting; Demonstrated experience with intake interviews that identify student needs; Demonstrated experience with developing short- and long-term educational plans.
