Professional Assistant (Temporary position) – Testing and Advising
Job Description
Announcement is hereby made for a 1-semester, full-time, temporary Professional Assistant beginning immediately in the department of Testing and Advising on the Ammerman Campus in Selden.
Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.
This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.
Job Description:
The Professional Assistant reports to the Director of Advising and Testing and has primary responsibility for the coordination of all testing and advising scheduling/staffing in addition to the supervision of part-time and seasonal support staff. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Oversee activity at the First Stop Welcome Center desk to ensure walk-ins are appropriately serviced by part-time staff (College Aides and FWS students).
- Assist the Director of Advising and Testing to ensure all support staff (year-round and seasonal) are trained and up-to-date with office and inter-departmental policies and procedures, Banner, SARS, college website, and student portal.
- Monitor flow of student advising during peak periods to ensure students are serviced expeditiously.
- Plan schedules of all support staff to provide adequate coverage.
- Compile data for weekly/monthly reports.
- Coordinate testing and advising schedules for data entry into SARS.
- Liaise with other student affairs departments (e.g., Admissions, Registrar, AAMC, Disability Services, and Health Services).
- Work with the Director to implement the outreach plan (for admitted students) for the start of the spring 2024 enrollment cycle.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Advising and Testing.
An Associate Degree is required. A minimum of two years of experience working in the area of student services, preferably at a community college. Excellent written, interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.
