Success Coach / Counselor
Job Description
General Function: Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support and Learning Resources, and Mental Health Coordinator, the Success Coach/Counselor assist the Mental Health Coordinator in providing short-term counseling services for students in need. The Success Coach/Counselor also supports a variety of services including but not limited to helping students develop academic and career plans, assisting students with registration, and mentoring/counseling students to resolve barriers to their success.

- Assist with providing personal counseling to students and initiate referrals to outside professionals and agencies when appropriate
- Counsel students in developing career, success, and academic plans
- Monitor students academic progress, providing mentoring services to resolve academic and personal barriers to their success, and obtaining support services to meet specific needs
- Provide outreach to at-risk students, encouraging participation in coaching appointments and other means of intentional intervention and student support activities
- Engage with students using a proactive appreciative advising model to promote success facilitated by the Colleges online academic alert and planning system, and update students record to document interactions
- Encourage student engagement on campus, including student leadership, mentoring, and career exploration opportunities
- Assist in faculty development sessions relating to counseling, advising, and success coaching
- Participate in college-wide programs, services, and activities that promote the growth of the College
- Participate in open house, orientation, and other student services activities that may include periodic evening and weekend events
- Participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge of current academic success, counseling, and advising trends
- Serve on committees and assist with any other duty as required
- Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Counseling, Student Development, or related field
- One or more years experience in an academic and/or counseling setting
- National Board Certification or NC Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) Certification
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, statistical and web page functions
- Three or more years experience in a higher education setting
- One or more years experience in an academic advising setting
