SUMMARY

JOB DUTIES


  • Serves as the colleges administrator for all academic advising and academic support policies and procedures at the college.
  • Develops, directs and implements the strategic plan for the advising unit, which is aligned with the College mission and goals at it relates to academic advising, degree planning, and student success.
  • Assigns students faculty and staff academic advisors
  • Coordinates academic support and advising for specific and cohort programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring the consistent production, collection and reporting of data related to the assessment of advising practices, student office traffic, student performance, advisor performance, etc.
  • Serves as a point of contact for students with academic problems, complaints, etc. Refers to Division Dean, faculty and relevant administators
  • Works collaboratively with faculty, adjunct faculty, student affiars staff to ensure success of the colleges proactive, guided pathways advising model and the delivery of advising to students.
  • Parnters with orientation staff to ensure academic advising occurs for new students.
  • Recommends personnel for hire and supervises advisors and academic support center staff. Provides evaluations and performance feedback accordingly and in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes student success data and student development research to inform decisions regarding student learning and advising program outcomes, including assessing outcomes toward continuous improvement.
  • Stays abreast of emerging and current research, advising technology and success strategies to provide intentional advising interactions between students and the advisement center staff.
  • Assists students with educational, career, personal and social development. Advocates for the advising needs of students that contribute to their successful enrollment, engagement and completion of their educational goal.
  • Assists with advising current and prospective students on the colleges offerings, academic pathways, prerequisites, programs, procedures and services.
  • Works with appropriate individuals and various departments to maintain accurate, current academic and instructional program information.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with external partners to create a seamless, integrated and comprehensive advising system
  • Oversees the development and management of the advisement center budget
  • Participates in professional development appropriate to the functions of the position and professional interests. Promotes and engages staff in relevant professional development activities
  • Participates in college-wide decision-making and as a member of the student affairs leadership team to help coordinate services and operations within the division and throughout the campus
  • Supports the mission, vision, and values of the College and attends College events and meetings
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the title and as assigned that support the mission of the College
  • Co-leads the administration, training and supervision of the Academic Support Center, which consists of the Tutoring and Testing Centers for at WWC and JKC campuses.
  • Manage the tutoring, and class learning assistance for the centers
  • Coordinating staffing and support for the MCCCs Writing and Science Learning Centers at the West Windsor and James Kearny Campus in coordination with the department faculty and Division Deans
  • Develop tutor programming, peer tutoring, in-class academic learning assistance, identifying resources for learning support, and providing outreach to the college community to ensure coordination between student classroom learning and academic support.
  • Assist with test administration and training of staff
  • Serves as a proctor for test as needed and
  • Provides academic support for students who need accommodations and have special needs in the testing and tutoring centers
  • Define training opportunities, student assessment benchmarks and classroom data that impact student academic success
  • Must be a highly motivated team player with a desire to learn and multitask in a fast-paced environment and work with confidential information.
  • Be confident and comfortable interacting with a broad array of stakeholders, including college faculty, academic coordinators, and college leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serves as the colleges administrator for all academic advising, policies and procedures at the college.
  • Develops, directs and implements the strategic plan for the advising unit, which is aligned with the College mission and goals at it relates to academic advising, degree planning, and student success.
  • Responsible for the recruiting, hiring, and evaluation of academic advisors, professional staff, professional tutors, peer tutors, education specialist, administrative staff and other academic support staff for academic support at WWC and JKC campuses
  • Defines academic support metrics based on current best practices and MCCC student academic needs
  • Develops Learning Assistant Program and in-class academic support initiatives.
  • Develops and implements student success workshops and seminars
  • Partners with Academic Division Deans, Program Coordinators, Directors, Cohort programs (EOF and Honors), and Enrollment Management, Faculty to coordinate academic support at the current and future learning centers.
  • Chairs Academic Advising and Student Success Working Group and attends department/divisional meetings
  • Manages advising testing and tutor budgets, grant effort certification, payroll functions and assessment reports of tutor-student services
  • Collaborates with academic division and student service units to design, execute, and evaluate tutoring services.
  • Provides outreach, orientations, and marketing materials to promote the ASC
  • Oversees the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor-training program and maintains its certification and other professional development activities.
  • Utilizes NACADA and CRLA best practices and provides professional development for staff
  • Assists students and faculty with customer service issues and provides solutions
  • Creates and assesses program activities to support student success
  • Monitors website content and recommends changes and updates
  • Assist with grant research writing and submission
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises administrative staff and part-time staff in tutoring division.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use vision and talk or hear.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require the ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

 

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Masters Degree in related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Three to five (3-5) years experience in a Managerial, Assistant, or Associate Director role.
  • Three years (3) years experience working in a higher education with specific experience working with academic advising and academic support leadership.
  • Three years (3) years experience supervising a professional staff in a higher education setting.
  • Experience Three years (3) years experience working with faculty and academic staff.
  • Three years (3) years experience working in a high-paced environment.
  • Three years (3) years experience working with various population including but limited to first-generation, and students with a disability.
  • Has a valid drivers license and access to transportation.
  • Must be available to work some nights and weekends.
  • Mastery of M.S. Word suite (excel, word, PowerPoint etc.) and ability to learn and apply the use of technology.

 

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Five to ten (5-10) years of prior experience in a Managerial, Assistant, or Associate Director role.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English.
  • At least three to five (3-5) years of experience in a community college setting.
  • Has demonstrated track record of building programs and initiatives to support students such as tutors, learning assistance and virtual/online learning.
  • Served as tutor in Math, English or Science or a high-demand subject.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Experience supervising a staff, multitasking and working within student and academic affairs.
  • Exceptional knowledge of Colleague, Student Planner, Self Service, CRM Advise and CRM Recruit.
  • Must know how to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Manage projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Working knowledge of higher education and the needs of diverse populations of students.
  • Mastery of M.S. Word suite (excel, word, PowerPoint etc.. ) and ability to learn and apply the use of technology.
  • Knowledge of research, trends and best practices for academic advising, academic support area, tutoring and testing.
  • Understand the use of data, goal setting and benchmark of students of student success.
  • Candidates must have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach job-related knowledge to others in a training setting.
  • Graphic design skills to create promotional materials.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals.

  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of Vice President for College Advancements, clients, customers, and the general. public.
