POSITION: Dean of Science and Mathematics– Full-Time – Lufkin

EMPLOYMENT DATE: Until Filled

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Education: Masters degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.

· Experience:

o At least 5 years of teaching experience in a Science or Math area.

o Experience in budget development, administration, and curriculum development.

· Certification or Licensure: None

· Training or Technical Skills:

o Expertise in assessment and continuous improvement; online and hybrid instruction;

o Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population; and

o Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Doctorate in science, mathematics, education, or related field from a regionally accredited institution.

· Community College experience is strongly preferred, especially teaching, and/or program leadership.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Dean of Science and Math is responsible for leadership, supervision, and evaluation of all School programs, personnel, and services offered on-campus and through distance learning modalities. The responsibilities also include implementing college policy, planning, budget development, and management for on-campus and off-campus expenses. This position must implement the current editions of the Lower Division Academic Course Guide Manual published by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an abiding commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college;
  • Implement and manage assessment protocols to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of academic programs, and take appropriate actions based on data and best practices;
  • Develop and maintain research-based expertise on the delivery of science and math courses in condensed terms and work with faculty to implement findings and continuously improve instructional design and delivery;
  • In collaboration with faculty, develop and implement a professional development plan for each full-time and part-time instructor;
  • Research, and propose new academic programs;
  • Ensure information about the School of Science and Math in official publications, including the College Catalog and Class Schedule, is accurate, relevant, and updated appropriately;
  • Ensure personnel needs in the School are met through accurate and appropriate announcements of and search processes for faculty and staff positions;
  • Participate in unit planning incorporating compliance with relevant local, regional, and federal regulations to promote continuous improvement;
  • Encourage data-supported budget decisions to accomplish unit goals;
  • Coordinate School activities related to faculty/staff changes and additions; coordinate the budget process and purchase of supplies and equipment; promote faculty development; schedule classes for each semester, and provide/facilitate/schedule appropriate advising for students;
  • Supervise faculty and staff and evaluate performance; take appropriate, timely actions, as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty to recommend curriculum changes to upgrade content and to provide relevant freshmen and sophomore courses in all degrees;
  • Promote continuous improvement of instruction within the School;
  • Coordinate educational offerings with high schools, other colleges, and universities;
  • Communicate needs for learning support services to student services and other appropriate offices;
  • Maintain communication with universities to enhance transfer of students;
  • Field and process inquiries, complaints, and grievances from students, faculty, parents, and public/private school personnel;
  • Serve the institution through participation on campus committees;
  • Support the School of Science and Math events by attendance;
  • Participate in annual professional development to enhance knowledge and skills to support of position and college mission; and
  • May teach course load of 1-2 courses in each semester, and may request to teach additional courses in the summer.

CONTRACT & SALARY:

$90,000 per year, in addition to excellent employee benefits. Proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be verified for the successful candidate.
