Position Summary

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a full-time, Program Specialist 2 in the college's Agriculture/Workforce Education Division. This is an overtime eligible position.

Under general direction, this position works collaboratively with program faculty and staff to provide instructional, student, and clerical support for Workforce Education programs, with a primary emphasis in the Agriculture programs.

This position reports to the Dean of Workforce Education and works collaboratively with others in a team environment in an effort to facilitate a positive experience for students.

Essential Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Work collaboratively with program faculty to support instructional duties for courses offered in workforce programs; such as, preparing course documentation, grading assignments, providing course information, and supporting instruction on campus, online and at offsite locations.
  • Participate and support workforce education program/course outcomes and assessment.
  • Support coordination and assist in demonstrations and laboratory projects to include preparation, cleaning, maintenance, and organization of lab equipment and inventory materials; maintain security of program equipment and class/lab spaces
  • Provide program information to potential students. Represent Workforce Education programs at internal and external outreach and recruitment events. Schedule and coordinate student, course, and program orientations.
  • Provide academic advising to potential and continuing Workforce Education students.
  • Work with campus resources to address admissions, registration, advising, and student financial issues.
  • Prepare updates and materials for regular meetings of the program advisory committee; recruit for and participate in advisory committee meetings.
  • Coordinate the creation and dissemination of promotional material, in collaboration with the Communications Office and program faculty.
  • Attend academic and student services meetings, as necessary.
  • Maintain positive relationships with K-12 partners and industry within the service district.
  • Support, facilitate, and perform clerical/administrative duties as needed. May supervise student workers.
  • Maintain student and program data; work closely with Admissions & Registration to ensure accurate coding of student records.
  • Ensure confidentiality of student information following the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), financial aid guidelines, and state and college regulations.

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of SDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Perform related duties and other responsibilities as may be required.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION REQUIRE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE IN:

  • Experience using computers, spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval systems, and word processing software including Excel, Word, and Outlook to accomplish daily work.
  • Experience entering and extracting data from database applications.
  • Experience with including prioritizing tasks, keeping track of information or work in progress, ensuring accuracy, multi-tasking, handling interruptions effectively, meeting competing deadlines.

  • Multi-task in a fast-paced environment; prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrate competency in ability to provide service in a multicultural environment.

REQUIRED WORK SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Basic work schedule is 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:30 am to 2:00 pm on Friday. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the department.

Work is sedentary in nature with frequent repetitive hand and wrist motions. Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screens in performing work assignments. Frequent need for oral and auditory communications. Occasionally kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift and carry up to 25 lbs., unassisted. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with faculty, staff, professionals, students, and the public.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

At the time of application, all candidates must possess the following:

  • Agriculture or related associates degree (completed within 1 year of hire) from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the employer.
  • One (1) year of agriculture-related experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous teaching/training/tutor experience.
  • Familiarity with Canvas or equivalent learning management systems.
  • Previous experience working in higher education.
  • Experience with data management such as collecting, storing, analyzing, and reporting.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency.
