This recruitment will be used to fill two (2) part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Animal Attendant for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Oregon State University (OSU).
The Student Animal Attendant position provides continuous daily cleaning of VTH facilities, daily maintenance of equipment, and feeding/husbandry care of patients and teaching herd animals. As support staff for an operating veterinary clinic; we provide care (cleaning/re bedding, feeding, watering), restraint and handling of large animals (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) to accomplish husbandry tasks within a veterinary teaching hospital.

As support staff for an operating veterinary clinic; we provide care (cleaning/re bedding, feeding, watering), restraint and handling of large animals (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) to accomplish husbandry tasks within a veterinary teaching hospital.
The hospital is open for emergencies 24/7, therefore we have staffed scheduled 7 days a week between the hours of 6am and 5pm. Most shifts are two, four, or eight-hour blocks. 6am-8am and 3pm-5pm are our peak times for work to be done and schedules are based around coverage for these times. The schedule will also include at least one weekend day. As the hospital is operating year-round, Student Animal Attendants are required to work some Holidays and during breaks (winter, spring, and summer).
This position requires working in extreme weather conditions and the handling of large animals. Workers are required to be trained and work safely on large equipment such as tractors, other farm equipment, leaf blowers, weed eaters, and pressure washers.

Position Duties
80%- Cleaning & Disinfecting of stalls and items used by patients, feeding and watering of patients and teaching herd animals, daily hospital operations tasks such as: garbage, laundry, process sharps s, and tidying feed rooms; cleaning and maintenance of farm and outdoor facilities such as: Leaf blowing the parking lot, paddock cleaning, weed control, and pressure washing.
15% – Weekly cleaning projects and maintenance within the hospital. Ex: touch up painting, assist with fence repairs, deep cleaning treatment rooms and other VTH areas.
5%- other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Experience with Large Animals (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) handling, caring for and behaviors.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
At least 1-year experience with LARGE ANIMAL (e.g., horses, cattle, sheep) caring for and handling.
Experience with cleaning and disinfecting in an animal care facility
