This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (approximately 32 hours per week) Tribal Extension Education Program Assistant 1 position for the Division of Extension and Engagements Family and Community Health Program at Oregon State University (OSU)

This Education Program Assistant 1 (EPA1) position serves the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs and is based at the OSU Division of Extension and Engagements Extension Warm Springs office in Warm Springs, Oregon. This position is a member of the regional and statewide team of the OSU Extension 4-H Youth Development (4-H) and Family & Community Health (FCH) programs. OSU Extensions employees offer effective programs to serve Oregonians through education and community partnerships.

The purpose of this position is to support tribal food preparation, preservation, and nutrition informal educational programs using culturally sensitive and appropriate materials. Program participants learn to manage food resources, make healthy food choices, and handle food safely. Programming is done through partnerships with community organizations, including schools, food banks and pantries, and youth camps. Annual funding is provided in part by the Federally Recognized Tribal Extension Program (FRTEP) grant as well as contributions by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs.

This EPA1 assists the supervisor with designing, developing, maintaining and/or carrying out educational programming and outreach activities to serve the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.

The Division of Extension and Engagements Extension 4-H Youth Development Program provides young people with intentional, high-quality learning experiences that promote positive interactions with adults and peers, sustained and active participation across time, and opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the world around them. This mission is accomplished through the work of volunteers, youth, community members, and professionals who organize and conduct learning experiences in club, group, community, and family settings. Programs are implemented in a manner that is consistent with the best practices in the field of youth development and respectful of local norms and culture. 40% Youth tribal education

Delivers pre-approved informal programming in support of 4-H project clubs and programs, fostering engaged learners and positive youth leaders in the community.

Delivers pre-approved STEAM education lessons through the S.M.I.L.E. program.

Supports delivery of locally and culturally relevant gardening education, as necessary.

Encourages and recruits Warm Springs tribal youth to participate in positive youth development opportunities in the community (4-H livestock, archery, or dance groups, for example).

Assists supervisor with creating inclusive and accessible environments and provides reasonable accommodations.

Recruits and engages volunteers to assist with after-school and out-of-school time programs. Provides support and orients program volunteers.

Provides pre-approved after-school programming in collaboration with the Warm Springs Academy 21st Century After School Program.

Travel/driving is required to deliver youth tribal educational programming and services.

10% Records and reporting

Maintains class, meeting, and assessment records, attendance records, evaluation data, paperwork; verifies for accuracy; submits all required records upon completion of classes, meetings, and assessments for state reporting.

Maintains record of work contacts, personal vehicle mileage for work travel, supplies purchased, and other data/statistical information/records as requested.

Submits quarterly success stories- “Stories from the field” to supervisor.

10% Meetings, trainings and other duties

Attends scheduled meetings and training sessions.

Completes and maintains MFP certification.

Participates in relevant statewide/regional conferences, workshops, meetings and trainings.

Attends Extension staff meetings and participates in regional/state OSU Extension Service activities, as directed.

Attends training opportunities to build basic knowledge and consistent skills to use digital communications, marketing and engagement technologies relevant to position duties.

Completes the divisions civil rights training session(s) and assists the managing faculty with coordinating the completion by volunteers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
